The trial has been approved by the Health Products Regulatory Agency of the UK (HPRA) to treat patients diagnosed with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), but this is in line with the previous guidance on the use of Cialis® (Tadalafil) in patients with an enlarged prostate.
The trial is currently being conducted by the HPRA and will be held in conjunction with a randomised controlled trial in men aged 18 to 64 years.
The trial was first planned as a trial for treatment in patients with BPH in men, but because of the long-term nature of the trial, this has now been carried out in a smaller group of men with mild to moderate symptoms, who may not be suitable for treatment.
The HPRA has set a target in 2025 to increase the use of Tadalafil (Cialis®) to 30% in patients with BPH, with the maximum dose of 40mg and the daily dose of Cialis® recommended by the HPRA in patients with mild to moderate symptoms.
The trial was first planned for clinical use in men, but because of the long-term nature of the trial, this has now been carried out in a smaller group of men with BPH, who may not be suitable for treatment.
Cialis® (Tadalafil) is a phosphodiesterase-5 (PDE5) inhibitor, and is effective for the treatment of BPH. It works by increasing the activity of the PDE5 enzyme and is a PDE6 inhibitor. It is taken as a single daily dose and is used as needed in patients with moderate to severe symptoms.
The trial was designed to be followed up in men aged 18 to 64 years, and included in the same way as for Cialis® (Tadalafil) and is indicated for patients who are unable to take Cialis® (Tadalafil) and for patients who require a dose lower than the recommended maximum recommended dose for BPH.
The study was carried out in the following 3 phases:
Phase 1: A double-blind, placebo-controlled study
Phase 2: A double-blind, placebo-controlled study in men aged 18 to 64 years
Phase 3: A double-blind, placebo-controlled study in men aged 18 to 64 years
The main study endpoints were as follows:
1. Treatment effectiveness
2. Treatment tolerability
3. Safety profile
4. Efficacy and safety
5. Safety data
6. Response and tolerability
7.
8. Adverse effects
9. Interactions

Appreciate the support of your feedback?Cialis® is a prescription drug used to treat the signs and symptoms of benign prostatic hyperplasia, which are the symptoms associated with this condition, such as difficulty urinating.
The HPRA approved the use of tadalafil in combination with other drugs to treat BPH, including some in the UK.
The trial is being conducted in the following 3 phases:
Tadalafil is approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) as an effective treatment for the symptoms of BPH, which can be improved by the use of tadalafil in combination with other drugs, such as alprostadil, and for some patients who do not respond to other treatments.
It is important to note that tadalafil should not be used in combination with other drugs that are known to cause unwanted side effects. This is because these medications are generally not effective in treating BPH symptoms.
Tadalafil is available in the market as a single-dose tablet, and is usually taken once a day.
1.Nitrates (e.g., nitroglycerin, isosorbide dinitrate): Cialis and nitrates both lower blood pressure. Taking them together can cause a significant and potentially life-threatening drop in blood pressure (hypotension), leading to dizziness, fainting, or even heart attack or stroke. It is contraindicated to use Cialis with nitrates or recreational "poppers" (amyl nitrites).
2.Alpha-blockers (e.g., prazosin, terazosin, tamsulosin): Both Cialis and alpha-blockers relax blood vessels, which can lead to excessive blood pressure reduction when used together. This may result in dizziness, fainting, or orthostatic hypotension (a sudden drop in blood pressure when standing). If needed, your doctor may adjust the dosage or recommend spacing the medications.
3.Other antihypertensive drugs (e.g., atenolol, propranolol, enalapril, lisinopril): Cialis can enhance the blood-pressure-lowering effects of these medications. While this interaction is usually less severe than with nitrates or alpha-blockers, it can still cause dizziness or fainting in sensitive individuals. Close monitoring of blood pressure is recommended.
Cialis (tadalafil) can interact with certain foods and beverages, potentially altering its effectiveness or increasing the risk of side effects. Here are the key drug-food interactions to be aware of:
This medication is typically approved for use in conditions where a cost-ASHINGTONoted health benefit is satisfied. For example, Cialis can be used to treat erectile dysfunction, chest pain, or pulmonary hypertension, but not to treat high blood pressure.
